We leave Huaraz in private transportation to the village of Huaycayan. We will enjoy beautiful views of picturesque villages and towns in the Callejon de Huaylas, Carhuaz, Mancos, Ranrahirca, Yungay, and Caraz. In Hualcallan we will begin our hike towards our camp at Huishacash (4250m). We will pass by archaeologic ruins and pre-inca terraces (Recuay culture). We will eat lunch during the hike and eat dinner at the camp site.
After breakfast, we will begin our hike along a pre-inca trail that will take us to Lake Cullicocha (4625m). Here we will enjoy impressive vies of the Santa Cruz mountains (6259m). We will continue our ascent to the Cullicocha pass (4850m), where we will have a great view of Milluacocha Mountain (5480m). We continue our path, observing terraces in the Cedors valley that were cultivated in pre-incan times. Here we begin the ascent towards Osoruri pass, from which we will descend to our camp at Ruina Pampa (4500m)
Today we pass through the Alpamayo valley, enjoying beautiful platforms in the valley, heading towards our camp, the Alpamayo base camp, where we will have the most impressive view of the northwest face of Alpamayo (5947m). On the way we will pass Lake Jancarurish. In the afternoon we will rest in our camp.
Today we leave camp heading towards Huillca, passing Gara Gara pass (4830m) where we will enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of Quitaraju (6036m), Santa Cruz, Alpamayo, Jancarurish (5578m), and Tayapampa (5657m). We then descend to Mayobamba valley, and later ascending the Mesapampa pass (4500m). Here we have great views of the Pucahirca mountains and the east face of Alpamayo. We then descend to Tayapampa valley to arrive at our camp in Huillca (4000m). Duration: 5-6 hours. Camp: Huillca (4300m)
Early in the morning we leave Huillca heading towards the Yanajanca pass (4600m). Our path takes us by the base of the rocky Pucahirca, where we will have a view of its east face. We continue descending until reaching Lake Sactaycocha, and then continue to our next camp in the Andean village of Jancapampa. Here we will have a great view of Pucahirca.
This day we will head towards the picturesque village of Pinosogampa (3600m), and then ascend through the Tingopampa valley towards Tupa-tupa pass (4400m). During the descent we will see the Huecrococha Lake, where we will camp after passing through the Quiswar valley (3950m).
After breakfast we begin our hike ascending towards the Alto Pucaraju pass (4650m), where we enjoy a beautiful view of Taulliraju Paria, and Chacraraju. We then descend for a pre-inca trail to the valley where our next camp is in Tuctu (4150m).
Today we ascend a pre-inca trail towards Punta Union (4750m) where we have impressive views of Taulliraju, Garcilaso Pyramid, Artensonraju, Pucahirca and Quitaraju. We continue towards our camp in Taullipampa (4250m).
After breakfast we continue our hike towards Lake Arhuaycocha (4450m), where we will observe the impressive Alpamayo, along with Quitaraju, Garcilaso Pyramid, and Paria among others. We will then begin to descend through the Santa Cruz valley, passing Hatun Cocha and Ichic Cocha lakes (3850), where we will find a diverse variety of Andean ducks. We will camp in Llamacorral (3760m).
In our last day the route takes us to the left side of the Santa Cruz Valley, where we have the opportunity to observe varied vegetation and mountain ecosystems, from high altitude zones to tropical zones where orchids and bromeliads carpet the rocky walls. We descend to the Cashipampa village, where our transportation will await us to return to Huaraz.
